Ohio officers who died in 2011
Six Ohio officers have died in the first half of the year from injuries suffered in the line of duty. They are:
• Deputy Suzanne Hopper of the Clark County sheriff’s office, who was shot New Year’s Day at a trailer park near Springfield while investigating a report of gunfire.
• Stow police officer Jonathan Bastock, who suffered a knee injury and died of a related blood clot in February.
• Uniontown police Capt. Daniel Stiles, who was struck by a vehicle in February while directing rush-hour traffic at a busy intersection in Lake Township.
• Sandusky police officer Andrew Dunn, who was fatally shot in March after stopping a convicted felon riding a bicycle.
• Sgt. Brian Dulle of the Warren County sheriff’s office, who was struck by a speeding vehicle in May as he put out stop sticks during a police chase.
• Former Columbus police officer Thomas Hayes, whose January death was linked to a 1979 shooting that left him paralyzed.
